Dual Credit
-
Dual credit courses allows high school students to take college-level courses and earn both high school and college credit at the same time. These classes are taught by dual credit certified high school teachers at a high school.
-
Many PNH courses offer dual credit courses through UMSL or Missouri State.
-
Grades earned at PNH are shared with the university and appear on a college transcript with the course title.
-
Each college decides whether to accept and apply the dual credit toward degree requirements.
-
Colleges may accept the credit & grade, accept just the credit, or not accept the credit Credit transfer limits may apply based on the college and degree program. Students are responsible for confirming credit transferability. Use tools like Transferology or check with individual schools for guidance.
-
Parkway North High does not have access to your college transcript or records. Students wishing to transfer the credit, must request their transcript from UMSL or Missouri State to be transferred to their final college choice senior year.

AP Exam Credit
To earn college credit through an AP (Advanced Placement) class, students must first enroll in an AP course offered by their high school, which provides college-level instruction in a specific subject. At the end of the course, students can choose to take the corresponding AP exam, which is scored on a scale from 1 to 5. Many colleges and universities award credit or allow students to place out of introductory courses if they score a 3 or higher, though requirements vary by institution. By earning a qualifying score, students can potentially save on college tuition, graduate early, or have more flexibility in their college course schedule. Be sure to check the AP credit policy of your chosen college to understand how your scores will be applied.
NOTE: Students cannot get credit by just taking the AP course. They MUST take the exam. Some courses at Parkway North qualify for both dual credit and/or AP credit. It is up to the student on which (or if any) that they sign up for. Registration for both of these college credit opportunities takes place in their classroom with their teacher.
For more information on signing up for an AP exam. See Testing.
Early College Program (ECP)
The Early College Partnership (ECP) is a full-immersion, early entrance to college program located on the campuses of St. Louis Community College (STLCC) at Wildwood and Meramec. Students attend the ECP for two years, replacing the junior and senior years of traditional high school. While in the ECP, students engage in a curriculum consisting of all college coursework taught by professors at STLCC. Upon successful completion, students earn an Associate of Arts degree, as well as a high school diploma.
Students apply during their sophomore year of high school. See eligibility and application information on the Parkway Choice Programs website.

Make it Count
The Make it Count Program is designed for students who have fulfilled their high school graduation requirements by the conclusion of the first semester as an alternative to early graduation. Make it Count students spend the second semester of their senior year taking college classes full-time (minimum of 12 credit hours). This fully immersive college experience allows students to get a real college experience, graduating with a high school diploma and a whole semester of college credits.
Students are able to participate in high school extracurricular activities, sports, and events.
Students apply during their senior year of high school. See eligibility and application information on the Parkway Choice Programs website.
